We are an integrated design build team and take great pleasure in designing at all levels from Architecture and Interiors to Furniture design, Lighting design and Landscaping.
We have worked on projects with Zonta International, Rohini school and Holy Angels. We are also closely involved with Hitham Foundation with Kalpana being one of the founding trustees. Hitham focuses on music education for under privileged children and children with Autism and other special needs.
A design process which focuses on the cultural, social and economic context of the project, involving local skill and a passion for detailing and applied art helps us provide creative and unique long term sustainable solutions customized to each client.
Kalpanas, an Architecture and Interior Design practice was established as a proprietary firm by Architect Kalpana R Shanmugham a graduate from the School of Architecture and Planning, Anna University, Madras in 1994.
The firm has grown from a single proprietrix to a dedicated team and a second company, KCee Properties focusing on development and construction with Ar. Kalpana R Shanmugham and Civil Engineer L. Chandrasekar, at the helm, guiding a passionate team of Architects, Professionals and Consultants experienced in handling diverse projects such as residences, commercial buildings, retail showrooms, resorts, commercial apartments and educational institutions.
Reborn as STUDIO 42, the design team is now headed by Architect Madhulika Shanmugam also a graduate from SAP, Anna University, who joined the firm in 2012 after gaining experience in Sustainable Architecture and Interior Design as the project lead designer in practices in Bangalore, India and The United States of America.
We strive to design spaces with aesthetic elegance combined with highly functional and responsible solutions while pushing the boundaries with innovations in material and building technology. The firm provides integrated design-build solutions covering all major phases of projects from research and analysis, planning through to detailed design, project management and engineering support.
